HiLobrow's old look.
HILOBROW’s old look.

In mid-January, something went catastrophically wrong with HILOBROW’s WordPress template, which we’d installed and modified way back in 2009. Rather than attempt to restore the broken template, we decided that we’d use this opportunity to install a mobile-friendly responsive template. We launched HILOBROW’s new look in mid-February. Hope you like it!

In addition to the series mentioned above, HiLobrow published the following in 1Q2016:

  • THE PERFECT FLANEUR, an essay by HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn which appeared in the Winter 2016 issue of the British journal New Escapologist. • We announced this summer’s ENTHUSIASM series. QUIRK YOUR ENTHUSIASM will feature 25 posts, by 25 writers, on their favorite New Wave songs from c. 1977–1982.
  • We concluded our serialization of James Branch Cabell’s 1919 erudite, naughty, brilliant fantasy adventure Jurgen: A Comedy of Justice.
  • alison steele

  • We published a few final-ish items in our long-running (1,400 installments!) HILO HEROES series: Anthony Miller on STANLEY BOOTH and EDWARD ABBEY, and Devin McKinney on ALISON STEELE. Plus: Josh Glenn’s seventh and final RONDEL FOR HILO HEROES, an acrostic poem celebrating HILO HEROES.

  • We celebrated MICAWBER DAY 2016, the only holiday dedicated to idlers.
