TUBE YOUR ENTHUSIASM (CODA 2)

One of two codas to HILOBROW’s series of enthusiastic posts analyzing and celebrating a few of our favorite TV shows from the Fifties (1954–1963). Instead of discussing an entire TV show, HILOBROW’s Mike Watt recounted the following eerie story, which concerns a particular episode.
“a stop at willoughby” from rod serling’s twilight zone (I think number thirty, 1960) is always on me. there so happens to be a willoughby avenue in hollywood and twentyfive years after it was shot, I was driving south on la brea a couple nights after my twentyeight bday and it was late. I had been asked to come see radwaste at the roxy, they had two members of the urinals which were a band very significant to us minutemen. like I said, it was fuckin late but when I crossed willoughby, I got the weirdest shake or shiver trippy feeling. I thought of the tv show, that twilight zone episode. my pedro town is like thirty miles south so I get home and it’s ‘pert-near three or four… I hit the deck and the phone rings — it’s d boon’s pop and he says d boon’s been killed in a van wreck in arizona. that’s why I can’t ever forget this twilight zone episode.
