Marvel vs. Museum (5)
February 13, 2018
One in a series of ten posts, featuring Marvel Comics panels in which fine art makes an appearance, contributed by HILOBROW friend Douglas Wolk, whose ALL OF THE MARVELS tumblr documents what he’s been reading for his forthcoming book.
From The Human Fly #8, 1978, by Bill Mantlo, Frank Robbins, and the “New York Tribe.” Hector Ayala, the White Tiger, takes in an exhibition at the “Inner City Festival” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (I’m pretty sure there was never any such thing). “Rivera Siquieros” appears to be a conflation of Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siquieros, two different Mexican muralists. Any idea what the artwork in the background might be?

What do you think?
Isn’t that a tiny comma between ‘Rivera’ and ‘Siquieros’? That would remove the conflation.
That makes sense to me. And why would he list real writers but an imaginary painter? That comma is pretty inadequate though.
