One in a series of posts dedicated to New Wave-era (1964–1983) science fiction book covers depicting blown minds and deconstructed heads.

Roger Zelazny_1966_The Dream Master

One of the three protagonists of Roger Zelazny’s The Dream Master (1966) is Render, a talented neurotherapist who actively shapes waking dreams for his patients; another is Eileen Shallot, a brilliant but blind psychiatrist who persuades Render to use the neuroparticipation therapy to teach her what it’s like to see — even though, in doing so, Render risks becoming lost in her dreams. (The third protagonist, you ask? Eileen’s mutated seeing-eye dog!)
