HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn has been experimenting, recently, with Midjourney, an AI-generated art-making tool. We are pleased to share with you a few Josh-prompted MJ creations.

RUNNING LINES

I’m not the only MJ user to cut and paste language from novels, poems, artist’s manifestos, etc., into the app. The results in many cases are disappointing… but here are a few fun results.

“As beautiful as the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table.” [Comte de Lautréamont] (8/31/22). Click for larger version.

“The passion of Christ considered as an uphill bicycle race” [Alfred Jarry] (8/21/22). Click for larger version.

“The enormous room on the ground floor faced towards the north. Cold for all the summer beyond the panes, for all the tropical heat of the room itself, a harsh thin light glared through the windows, finding only the glass and nickel and bleakly shining porcelain of a laboratory. Wintriness responded to wintriness. The light was frozen, dead, a ghost. Only from the yellow barrels of the microscopes did it borrow a certain rich and living substance, lying along the polished tubes like butter, streak after luscious streak in long recession down the work tables.” [Aldous Huxley] (10/13/22). Click for larger version.

“I look high, I look low, I’m looking everywhere I go… looking for a home in the heart of the country” [Paul McCartney] (8/16/22). Click for larger image.

“The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes, Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains, Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys, Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap, And seeing that it was a soft October night, Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.” [T.S. Eliot] (8/12/22) Click for larger version.

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” [J.R.R. Tolkien] (8/11/22). Click for larger version.
