One in a series of posts via which Josh Glenn will share recent examples of stuff that he was tempted to purchase via eBay… but, heroically, didn’t.

PEP UP Lithiated cork soda caps
US $16.95
A member of my family (not my immediate family) was prescribed lithium recently… which led me down a rabbit hole of research that led me to search for bottles of “lithiated” soda on eBay. There were a bunch of these, once upon a time.
7Up, for example, which was launched in 1929 as a hangover cure and health tonic, contained lithium until the FDA banned the ingredient in soft drinks in 1948. Some people speculate that the name “7 Up” refers to the lithium’s atomic mass (~7) and the drink’s mood-lifting effect; but no one knows for sure.
