I was telling my wife and adult son about how, when the Rankin-Bass animated musical TV special The Hobbit came out in 1977, or shortly thereafter, my friend John Dooley pirated the soundtrack — by placing a tape recorder next to his TV set. We’d listen to that tape many times; I’ve pretty much memorized it.
So then they wanted to watch the Rankin-Bass Hobbit, which really holds up. And then I went looking on eBay for swag.
