PLANET OF PERIL

From a forthcoming installment in this series.

From 2016–2019, HILOBROW friend and Pink Think: Becoming a Woman in Many Uneasy Lessons author Lynn Peril contributed a monthly HILOBROW column, dedicated to “forgotten fads and figures,” titled PLANET OF PERIL. (And during the ’90s, Lynn contributed to HILOBROW editor Josh Glenn’s zine Hermenaut.) Since 2019, Lynn has contributed frequently to HILOBROW. But we’ve missed her column… so we’re thrilled to announce that as of 2Q2026, PLANET OF PERIL will return!

MEDIA DIET

During 1Q2026 we kicked off a series exploring the media “input” of a group of people — HILOBROW’s friends and contributors — whose “output” we admire. Here’s a sampling of our MEDIA DIET lineup for 2Q2026:

HOLLY INTERLANDI | NICHOLAS ROMBES | ANNIE NOCENTI | SETH | MATTHEW BATTLES | JUDITH ZISSMAN | GARY PANTER | PEGGY NELSON | JONATHAN PINCHERA | FLOURISH KLINK.

Here’s an index page for the series.

RADIUM AGE PROTO-SF

HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn is editor of the RADIUM AGE series of reissued proto-sf adventures from the MIT Press. During 2Q2026, the team will prepare the following Fall 2026 title for publication:

  • Olaf Stapledon’s Last and First Men (abridged, August 25), introduced by Matthew De Abaitua. A dazzling work of science fiction to which Dune, the Foundation trilogy, and 2001: A Space Odyssey owe a major debt. “The boldest imaginings of Mr. Wells pale before the dreams of Mr. Stapledon.” — Oxford Magazine (1930)

From this point on, the Radium Age series will publish one title per season / two titles per year. Exciting installments in the works include four anthologies and one single-author collection; two of the anthologies and the collection are now being translated into English. Josh will oversee these projects, during 2Q2026, as well.

For the latest updates, please keep an eye on this page.

INCREASINGLY ERRATIC SERIES

Adam McGovern (shown here) may continue to deliver over-the-transom, on-tangent essays, dialogues and subjective scholarship via his monthly-ish series OFF-TOPIC. Or he may not. Last time we published an installment: September 2025.
