PHOTO DUMP (2-26)

A collection of photos taken during the past month by HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn. Also see the SCREENSHOTS series; and see HILOBROW’s Instagram feed.

I submitted three ink-and-gouache art works to LOVE LETTERS TO KINGSTON, a group art exhibit that will run from February 7 – April 24 at Camp Kingston’s Studio. Here’s the explanatory text I wrote:
2024 was the first summer that my wife Susan and I spent in Kingston. We visited a lot of galleries and studios, including MKAD’s The DRAW Studio, the newly opened CPW, the soon-to-close ArtPort Kingston, and a sonic performance at Wave Farm. Inspired to make art in a way that I hadn’t been before, I bought a little 4×6 blank notebook and started drawing and painting. I filled it up in just three months — for me, that was an unprecedented output. Though very little of the resulting art work, the majority of which is entirely (or, in the case of several Jack Kirby-inspired works, partially) abstract, is directly about Kingston, all of it exists because of Kingston. Waking up in this town every day made me want to paint!
The Captain America art work in this exhibit references my teenage doodling; the two works titled “Semiosphere” reflect my efforts, as a professional semiotician, to diagram meaning.
Bridget Badore of Holding Space (pictured above, at Camp Kingston) is the show’s curator.

Though I have shared my doodles, comics, drawings, etc., sporadically via my zine Hermenaut (1992–2001), here at HILOBROW, and via Instagram, this is my first IRL exhibition. Photo taken during the fun opening night event.

Ramona Lyons lives in the Bay Area, and I live in upstate New York, so while developing a semiotic card game together — we’ve begun the very first phase of play testing — we are doing a lot of video calls.

Finally got in some x-country skiing with Susan, this month — at Mohonk Preserve.

Winter hanging in there.

Spotted while snowshoeing in the Bluestone Forest, near Onteora Lake.

I volunteered to help out at the CraftHV Collage Night at Senate Garage — because our friends Melanie Cozzolini and Karlie Flood took the lead in organizing it. I really enjoyed it: Over 100 (!) people showed up, many of them a bit hesitant and shy at first… and it proved to be a very creative and convivial evening. A superbly chill way to meet people.
