Max rode from Flatbush to Poughkeepsie in one day — 111 miles! I took a train down to Tarrytown, and joined for the last 75 miles. Hard work, but fun. We averaged 13 miles per hour — fast for me, slow for Max. (It helped that they were already on mile 36 by the time I joined.) The Empire State Trail is really well maintained. Some of the hills are long and brutal though. Photos by Max.

HILOBROW friend Jonny Pinchera came to Kingston, for a few hours — to help Max move some audio gear, and to take us both out for lunch. (It was Max’s 26th birthday.) Photo by me, with Susan’s camera.
Three of Susan’s closest friends from Minnesota came for a few days’ visit. Very fun. Here’s Flannery on Bonticou Crag.
Susan and I keep returning to Mohonk Preserve’s “Lost City” escarpment loop. Vertical conglomerate rock formations, deep crevices, and canyon-like fissures — the scenery is already dramatic, plus it was peak foliage. Tito is wearing an orange vest because it’s hunting season.
A couple of photos from a glorious day spent biking along Mohonk Preserve’s carriage roads, then hiking up to the grounds of the Mohonk Mountain House, before making our way (creakily) through the famous mile-long “Labyrinth” rock scramble and finally tackling the Lemon Squeeze — a long ladder climb through a narrow cliff crevice. You feel as though you’d been re-birthed when you arrive at the top.
