SCREENSHOTS is a monthly series of posts via which HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn reviews his most recent screenshots — before deleting them from the over-full Dropbox folder to which they’d been uploaded. Also see the PHOTO DUMP series.

JULY 2023

*

Figuring out my schedule in advance of Readercon, a Boston-based sf convention I attended — in my capacity as editor of the MIT Press’s RADIUM AGE series — on the 14th.

*

I conducted research, during July, for my ongoing MOUSE series here at HILOBROW.

*

Stable Diffusion this past month launched Stable Doodle, a free website that converts simple sketches into detailed art using generative AI. I played around with it…

*

While researching illustrations for HILOBROW’s series of Radium Age poems, I came across the New York Public Library’s trippy BUTTERFLIES collection of cigarette cards, c. 1920s.

*

If Mark Kingwell and I were to coauthor a fourth glossary, I’d like to tackle knowing, cogitation, analysis, interpretation, truth…. To that end, when I use WordHippo, I’ll sometimes capture relevant clusters of supposedly synonymous terms.

*

George Wentworth and David Eugene Smith were the authors of many early twentieth-century mathematical textbooks. I came across this esoteric-style logo of theirs while researching illustrations for the Radium Age Poetry series here at HILOBROW.

*

Starting to think about one of my Radium Age book projects….

*

Unintentional visual echo on HILOBROW’s homepage.
