Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Airplane!, the airport-disaster spoof directed by Jim Abrahams and David Zucker. Over at Mental Floss, you’re invited to take a quiz testing your knowledge of the movie’s Magister Ludi-worthy puns and word games.

PS: How can anyone who revisits this movie today disagree that 1980 was in the Seventies?

What do you think?

  1. I risk getting rebuked as a heretic for saying this, but I’ve always found “Top Secret!” to be the funniest Zucker and Zucker film of that era. The “I’m sorry I can’t be here tonight, Nick…” megaphone scene, the giant telephone, the feet on the desk, the station pulling away from the train, Nick Rivers chalking up the time he’s spent in prison. And so on.

None of this is to say that “Airplane!” isn’t hilarious.
