SCREENSHOTS is a monthly series of posts via which HILOBROW’s Josh Glenn reviews his most recent screenshots — before deleting them from the over-full Dropbox folder to which they’d been uploaded. Also see the PHOTO DUMP series.
I’ve been working on a semiotic project (around Cola Codes), in collaboration with semio colleagues in the UK and India. Many thanks to Chirag Mediratta for this REFRESH THE JOSH commercial. In Hindi, “josh” (जोश) means “energy, fervor, zeal.”
Detail of a sci-fi novel cover, from the forthcoming HILOBROW series OMAC YOUR ENTHUSIASM — dedicated to our favorite sf novels and comics from the Seventies (1974–1983).
Detail of a photo sent by Nick Rombes, illustration for his forthcoming Q&A in the new HILOBROW series MEDIA DIET.
My brother Pat and I have been planning my mother’s memorial service this month — with the help of our wives, my mother’s friends, the minister of her church, and others.
I continue to interview commercial/applied semioticians around the world for the MAKING SENSE Q&A series at SEMIOVOX. Here’s Al Deakin, a UK colleague with whom I first started working nearly 25 years ago.
Unintended visual echo from HILOBROW’s homepage in February.
A few Midjourney-generated images from February:
Placeholder images from the semiotics-driven card game that Ramona Lyons and I are developing — to be débuted in May at Semiofest Warsaw. If we ever develop this game for real, we will use an illustrator.
Outtakes from illustrations created for HILOBROW’s serialization (beginning this month) of a proto-sf story by legendary crime writer Erle Stanley Gardner.
