Marita Bonner (1898–1971) was a writer, essayist, and playwright. After graduating from Radcliffe, she became associated with Georgia Douglas Johnson’s “S Street Salon,” in Washington, D.C., a key meeting place for writers and artists involved in the “New Negro Renaissance.” Bonner was a frequent contributor to The Crisis, which published "The Purple Flower" (1928), the first known experimental work by an American woman of color.
