Author: James Oppenheim
James Oppenheim (1882 – 1932) was an American poet, novelist, and editor. He was a founder and editor (with Waldo Frank and Van Wyck Brooks) of the short-lived journal The Seven Arts, which lost its financial backing because of its antiwar position. He is perhaps best remembered for his 1911 poem "Bread and Roses," now commonly associated with the pivotal 1912 textile workers' strike in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
