Edward A. Johnson (1860-1944) is author of a little-known work of proto-sf, Light Ahead for the Negro (1904). Johnson, who was African American, also wrote histories of Black life in America, and a work of Anthropology, Adam vs Apeman and Ethiopia (1931). He may have changed his middle name from Austin to Augustus after gaining his freedom; Austin probably being the name of his owner.
