Charles L. Hughes is a writer and teacher in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the author of two books, Country Soul: Making Music and American Race in the American South and Why Bushwick Bill Matters, as well as a wide variety of articles. With David Cantwell, he is the co-founder of the digital music newsletter No Fences Review. He is an associate professor at Rhodes College and a native of Wisconsin.
